la cenote ibizenca (Cueva de la luz)
Leave Ibiza’s familiar routes behind and set out on foot towards one of the island’s most secluded natural wonders. This adventure leads through untamed Mediterranean scenery, along rocky trails surrounded by pine forest and wide-open views of a coastline that still feels wonderfully remote.
As the trail descends towards the cliffs, the landscape becomes increasingly wild and isolated. Uneven ground and rocky passages give the journey the atmosphere of a genuine expedition, until an immense opening appears in the limestone just metres from the sea.
Welcome to the Cueva de la Luz, a spectacular marine cavern created by the natural collapse of the cliff. At the bottom lies a deep saltwater pool connected to the Mediterranean by an underwater passage. When sunlight enters the cave and reflects beneath the surface, the water reveals extraordinary shades of electric blue, turquoise and deep sapphire. The intensity of the light varies with the sun and weather, making every visit unique.
Take time to admire this remarkable setting from the rocks above. Anyone who prefers to remain dry can still experience the cave and enjoy its dramatic viewpoints without entering the water.
For those choosing the full aquatic adventure, enter the pool under the guidance of your guides, either by descending on a rope or taking an exhilarating jump of approximately six metres. Once in the water, float between towering rock walls and look up at the daylight pouring into the cavern. The contrast between the shadowy chamber and the luminous blue water creates an almost otherworldly atmosphere.
The exit is the most adventurous part of the experience. Dive beneath the rock and follow a short, naturally illuminated underwater passage leading directly into the open Mediterranean. The crossing takes approximately 20 seconds on one breath, descending around four metres before rising towards the surface outside. This section is reserved for confident swimmers who are comfortable underwater.
Emerge in the sea at the foot of the cliffs, then swim a short distance back to the coast. Continue with a snorkeling session in the crystal-clear waters nearby, discovering submerged rock formations, shifting patterns of sunlight and the vivid contrast between the blue Mediterranean and the rugged shoreline.
After the aquatic experience, return to the trail and begin the climb through the wild landscape. The ascent completes the sense of adventure and reveals fresh perspectives across the coast.
Combining a challenging hike, a secret cavern, a glowing blue pool, an underwater breath-hold passage and snorkeling in the open sea, this experience is designed for travellers seeking the raw, spectacular and truly adventurous side of Ibiza.
