Welcome to the Flamingo Tour

Discover one of Ibiza’s most distinctive landscapes on a hike through wild beaches, pine forest, protected dunes and salt ponds. This natural park brings together a spectacular coastline, a centuries-old salt industry and remarkable birdlife.

Begin near Ses Salines beach and follow the coastline eastwards. Walk along sandy and rocky trails, cross the pine forest and discover small sheltered coves and formations sculpted by the sea. Some rocks even feature figures and patterns carved by anonymous artists.

Reach the Tower of Ses Portes, a defensive watchtower built in the 16th century to monitor the passage between Ibiza and Formentera and protect the salt trade. Admire it from outside and take in sweeping views over the sea, the Es Freus channel, the surrounding islets and distant Formentera.

Continue towards Es Cavallet through sand, coastal vegetation and protected dunes. Your guide will explain why this fragile environment must be explored only along the authorised paths.

Next, discover the salt ponds and the surroundings of Sant Francesc de s’Estany. See the old mill and the whitewashed church once used by salt workers, and learn about the history of Ibiza’s “white gold”, which is still harvested today. Depending on the season, water level and light, the ponds may reveal golden, pink or copper reflections.

From the authorised observation points, try to spot flamingos and other wetland birds. Around 210 bird species can be found in the park throughout the year. Learn how the algae and tiny crustaceans living in the saltwater, including Artemia salina, contribute to the flamingos’ diet and colouring.

These wild birds may be seen during most of the year, but their presence, number and proximity can never be guaranteed. The group remains on the paths and keeps its distance to avoid disturbing them. Even when the flamingos are farther away or absent, the salt landscapes, coastline and local heritage make this a memorable hike.

Return before sunset, then reach Cap des Falcó after a short transfer. End the experience facing the sea as the light falls across the salt ponds and the sky changes colour above the coast.

Pink Flamingos — Ibiza
In the south of the island, where salt was once harvested, nature has taken over again. Shimmering lagoons, golden dunes, shallow waters stretching into the distance—and right in the middle of it all, pink flamingos.
Dozens of them, sometimes more. They return every year from April through October, turning the landscape into something completely unexpected for an island with Ibiza’s reputation.
UNESCO-listed. Peaceful. Completely unlike anywhere else.
The other side of Ibiza—the one that stays with you.
