Welcome to the secret caves tour.
nter three secret caves in Ibiza, each revealing a different world of rock, light and Mediterranean colour.
Begin at Cueva de las Medusas. Hidden inside an immense reddish-brown cliff, this cavern feels like a natural cathedral. Look upward as daylight enters through an opening high above, revealing monumental walls and extraordinary limestone formations.
As rainwater slowly filtered through the rock, it shaped draped concretions whose suspended silhouettes resemble jellyfish. This remarkable likeness gave the cave its name. Explore the chamber as golden, green and mysterious shades appear across its textured walls, then capture the otherworldly atmosphere of one of Ibiza’s most unusual hidden places.
Continue to The Slanted Cave. An immense diagonal opening frames the blue Mediterranean while enormous folded rock layers appear to lean towards the sea. Geological forces tilted these strata long before waves and salt sculpted the cave.
Walk across its remarkable stone floor, notice the small hollows where seawater creates natural mirrors and photograph the contrast between the dark interior, golden rock and open horizon. With its sloping walls, the cave resembles a geological amphitheatre facing the sea.
Finish at Cueva de la Sirena, a rocky oasis where turquoise water meets warm-coloured walls. Hold the assisting rope as you enter, then watch the phenomenon that gives this place its almost supernatural quality: a beam of sunlight passes through an opening and descends through the darkness until it reaches the crystal-clear water.
As the position of the sun and the state of the sea change, the beam moves and transforms the cave. Reflections shift from intense blue to emerald while warmer colours appear across the rock. Each moment creates a different image, as though the light were briefly revealing a passage into another world.
The cave’s name naturally inspires the imagination. Some like to picture this hidden oasis as a refuge for legendary mermaids, drawn to its clear water and concealed from view by the surrounding rock. No historical account proves the story, but when the beam illuminates the pool in the darkness, the legend suddenly feels almost believable.
Make the most of this exceptional natural setting while your guide helps take photographs with your phone. If you wish and conditions allow, enjoy an optional swim in the shallow natural pool. Swimming is never required.
From formations resembling jellyfish and dramatically tilted rock layers to an illuminated cave worthy of legend, discover a more adventurous, mysterious and photogenic side of Ibiza.
